Peppermints. I like the pattern on these tins. Stuck it in my makeshift light box, shone a couple lamps on it, put the camera on a tripod and cranked the aperture down to 32, and took it.

  • Camera: Canon 350D
  • Lens: Tamron 28-75mm 2.8
  • Aperture: 32
  • Shutter: 1 sec
  • ISO: 100

The moon. Took my camera and tripod up to take some shots with those trees in the foreground this evening. Noticed a little sensor dust in this shot (cloned it out), time to clean it for the first time.

  • Camera: Canon 350D
  • Lens: Tamron 28-75mm 2.8
  • Aperture: 16
  • Shutter: 8 sec
  • ISO: 200

My niece. Not actually taken today, but I'm back on my real computer so I could process all the RAW files and upload them. I think this was my best photo of the weekend. Don't vote me down just 'cause you saw it before please, if i should happen to enter it in Off-centered.

  • Camera: Canon 350D
  • Lens: Tamron 28-75mm 2.8
  • Aperture: 2.8
  • Shutter: 1/500
  • ISO: 100

Swimming pool. Still at the motel, grabbed my tripod and camera and took a shot of the pool outside a while ago. Still on the slow laptop, took ages to edit it. Took plenty of shots of the family and such today, all in RAW so it'll have to wait until tomorrow to process them.

San juan college. Had some time between my classes today, walked around to take some pics. Thought I'd look for a post like Chuck (hye5)'s, and I found some, but I liked this shot better. The whole everything-in-focus thing with point and shoots is kind of different in shots like this, I feel like something should be out of focus.. I want a pocket camera with a 50 1.8 :D

  • Camera: Canon SD400
  • Aperture: 5.6
  • Shutter: 1/1000
  • ISO: 50

Puddles. It snowed a lot here today, for a few hours when I was at work. Then it stopped, and rained instead. Taken in the parking lot of Walgreens with my SD400, didn't look very good in color so I tried BW.

  • Camera: Canon SD400
  • Aperture: 4.5
  • Shutter: 1/320
  • ISO: 50

Whoops. Got lazy today, so I picked an older shot to upload. This could have been so much better if I had composed it properly... oh well, lesson learned, pay attention to where the subject is and not just how fast it's moving. But the panning worked quite well.

  • Camera: Canon 350D
  • Lens: Canon 18-55mm
  • Aperture: 5.6
  • Shutter: 1/100
  • ISO: 800

Self portrait.Didn't have any better ideas, went to the mirror, pointed at my reflection, zoomed in and clicked.

  • Camera: Canon 350D
  • Lens: Tamron 28-75mm 2.8
  • Aperture: 2.8
  • Shutter: 1/30
  • ISO: 400

'Hole in the Sky'. Went out for a walk to see what kind of wildlife I could see today. Found some geese on the river here, the clouds were very thick so the sun poking through made for a very cool effect - reminded me of the song 'Hole in the Sky', so that's what I'll call the picture. I also saw a heron by the river, but it was skittish and flew away as soon as it saw me - then came back and flew away again.

  • Camera: Canon 350D
  • Lens: Tamron 28-75 2.8
  • Aperture: 2.8
  • Shutter: 1/3200
  • ISO: 200

Long exposure of the water in the river. Brought my camera and tripod with my new lens out for this purpose, and to get some shots of the sunset.

  • Camera: Canon 350D
  • Lens: Tamron 28-75mm 2.8
  • Aperture: 13
  • Shutter: 8 sec
  • ISO: 100

Snow. It snowed a lot yesterday, my dog ate some of it, and I took a pic. Taken with my new Tamron 28-75mm lens, which by the way is very nice.

  • Camera: Canon 350D
  • Lens: Tamron 28-75mm 2.8
  • Aperture: 2.8
  • Shutter: 1/320
  • ISO: 400

Bubbles. Well, actually water droplets on the inside of a plastic water bottle - used 18-55mm with 50mm reversed for macro focusing again.

  • Camera: Canon 350D
  • Lens: Canon 18-55mm, with Canon 50mm 1.8
  • Aperture: 5.6
  • Shutter: 100
  • ISO: 400

Hide and seek. Our cat playing around, peeked her head around to look at me and I took a pic. This flash still isn't quite fast enough, cats have time to start to close their eyes before it exposes. On my other cameras they were all the way closed though, I can't complain too much.

  • Camera: Canon 350D
  • Lens: Canon 50mm 1.8
  • Aperture: 4.0
  • Shutter: 1/160
  • ISO: 400

Horses. They belong to one of my neighbours, I was out riding with a friend of mine and I took some shots of these guys.. noticed the one in the background and got it framed between the tree and the other horse.

  • Camera: Canon SD400
  • Aperture: 4.9
  • Shutter: 1/160
  • ISO: 50

Empty can of soda. Put in a cardboard box with paper taped to the sides, and a laminated portfolio thing on the bottom and back. Folded black t-shirt on the left, shiny paper on the right and a small mirror under the camera to reflect. Lighting was a desk lamp and a 120w work lamp with paper taped to the front of them to diffuse a little.

  • Camera: Canon 350D
  • Lens: Canon 50mm 1.8
  • Aperture: 14
  • Shutter: 5 sec
  • ISO: 100

Cloudy day today, there were some breaks in the clouds and I went for a walk. Lots of wind, stirred up the surface of the river. There was enough sun peeking through to light up the banks and the house, but the clouds were still dark. I really liked how it turned out, but I think I oversharpened it a bit.

  • Camera: Canon 350D
  • Lens: Canon 50mm 1.8
  • Aperture: 6.3
  • Shutter: 1/640
  • ISO: 400

A place near my house - the part on the right is a dirt bowl that we ride down on bikes, and people go off roading there.

  • Camera: Canon 350D
  • Lens: Canon 18-55mm

  • Shutter: 1/125

My niece and dad. Taken last year with my G5. I have so many pictures I've never uploaded, using some of them for PAD's instead of boring macros of household objects or something. I kinda wish I hadn't sold that camera... it had a poor movie mode and that's what I use my point and shoot for a lot, but it was also a great camera with a much better lens than my SD400 has.

  • Camera: Canon G5
  • Aperture: 4.0
  • Shutter: 1/80
  • ISO: 50

Macro shot of Altoids in a can, lit by desk lamp. Used reversed 18-55mm lens in front of 50mm for macro focusing.

  • Camera: Canon 350D
  • Lens: Canon 50mm 1.8, Canon 18-55mm reversed
  • Aperture: 9.0
  • Shutter: 1/100
  • ISO: 800

Photo-a-Day 2006, late start but first entry

I decided to start one of these, better late than never. Maybe I'll do two photos some days to make up for the late start.

My nephew. We went to phoenix to visit, and I'm on my 233 laptop with no RAW conversion software so I'm stuck with one of the 3 shots I shot in JPEG. Don't have Hello on this either, so it's a link:
